Then and Now - Derby

derby1

I am lucky to have a fair few photos of Derby from the past. Lots has changed since many of them were taken.

Looking across towards the Roundhouse.

In the 27 years between these photos being taken, Derby station and the Work have had major redevelopments.
In 1989, the Roundhouse was empty. Much of the works was still there.

By 2016, only the Roundhouse remained, with most of the old works buildings demolished to make way for a redeveloped Etches Park and offices.

The track layout has remained the same, with the goods lines pretty much remaining the same.

Photographed from Platform 2, looking North at Platform 3.

The station was fully refurbished in 2005, and all of the 1950s built concrete canopies were swept away.
Pictured here in 1990 and also in 2016 is the Derby-Crewe service, in 1990, a Class 117 3 car DMU- in 2016 the service was usually covered by a Class 153 unit.

Also pictured in the background is one of two bridges giving access for staff to the works. Both of these bridges were removed during the 1990s.

Looking south on Platform 1 - this shows yet more how much has changed since the refurbishments.
Even the HST is a rare sighting at Derby these days!
